„Fostering Creativity“

What an experience!

Together with four colleagues, we were invited to design a project on the topic of “Fostering Creativity” at Dar Al-Hekma Women's University in Saudi Arabia. Dar Al-Hekma, a success-oriented and young university, is known for its innovative approaches and serves as a model for modern learning and teaching in Saudi Arabia.

We worked with 300 first-year students on the topics of goal setting, personality development, strengthening strengths, and fostering innovative thinking. Active learning was at the forefront. We used a variety of creative methods, and within a short time, a dynamic and energetic working atmosphere emerged, which was felt throughout the entire university.

At the end, the students presented their ideas and results to the senior students, all professors, and the management. “Standing ovations” and enthusiastic feedback reinforced their commitment, making it clear to everyone: Here come highly motivated first-year students who are dedicated to the success of their studies and their future.

For me personally, it was an incredible experience of great hospitality, mutual openness to cultural differences, and adapting to new circumstances. The transition from 40°C outside to a felt 18°C inside the buildings wasn’t easy, and I did miss the fresh Bavarian air a little! But I took so much more with me from this journey—many memories, beautiful experiences, and, most importantly, the deep realization that true connection can happen anywhere when we approach it with an open heart.

Thank you to everyone who made this time in Jeddah possible for me. I would especially like to thank my colleagues Dr. Isabel Creuznacher, Ute Thumm, Karin Wedra, and Christiane Frey. The joy of having successfully brought this project to life together will surely resonate with me for a long time. Beate Schwarz
